Several people believe that the extinction of rare species of plants and animals is the biggest environmental issue that we have today, while others think that there are other ecological problems that are crucial to be addressed. I think that all environmental hazards should be noted and taken care of.

It is a fact that several types of plants and animals have gone extinct. The main reason is illegal poaching and collection of animals and plants, respectively. Hunting animals is still prevalent in many parts of the world, causing the last of some rare breeds to vanish. For instance, huntsmen kill animals for their tusks, teeth, and skin to sell them illegally in the black market to make large sums of money. In addition, plants are affected by the carbon footprint generated daily by humans. This concerns many people who think the highest priority should be given to saving endangered species.

On the flip side, some people suggest that other demanding issues such as climate change warming should be confronted immediately. With rapid increase in the earth’s temperature and depleting ozone layer, it is only a matter of time before disasters on a large scale start to occur. For example, the polar ice caps are melting at a faster rate due to a dramatic rise in temperature, resulting in submergence of surrounding land. Furthermore, air and water pollution have hit the highest records in recent times with a surge in automobile usage, fuel combustion and industrial waste.

To conclude, although there are arguments that protection of endangered species of plants and animals takes precedence over other vital environmental issues, I believe that all issues are to be addressed and resolved to maintain an ecological balance.
