Gaining proficiency of a language is absolutely beneficial for an individual. It not only encourages better communication but also give a boost of confidence. I think, in any case, the upsides of learning a subsequent language are complex and are not limited to just communication.

People frequently take up a second a language to better communicate with native speakers while travelling to an exclusive country. Linguistic abilities determine their expert achievement and help in making effective exchanges. Furthermore, language proficiency could be an asset for immigration candidates. For instance, proficiency in German language gives an edge while applying for immigration to Germany as German is the official language of the country.

However, there are other reasons for people to learn a second language. Schools have a mandatory language course included in their curriculum and students need to gain basic knowledge of the same. In countries like India, English is said to be learned by many people for a better exposure on various platforms. Moreover, skill in a foreign language is beneficial to gain insights into the culture of a region. For instance, books in Japanese language predominantly represent their ethnic lifestyle and a reader could better understand it if awareness of the language is present. In addition, a survey conducted by an American university reported that mental capabilities to grasp concepts enhances with being multilingual.

To conclude, proficiency in multiple languages benefits travel and work purposes but its significance goes beyond these two targets. In my opinion, learning a second language enhances skills of an individual and supports their career.
