People have different opinions when it comes to whether a person should be friends with those who perpetually agree with them or with someone who has dissimilar opinions. I believe that friends do not always agree on matters and it is the best way to maintain friendship.
Many people believe that it benefits one to be friends with someone who shares the same viewpoint as them. The argument is that friends should have similar mindset with harmonious attitude towards the world, choices, political views, career etc. As a result, the bond between two people becomes stronger. For instance, two people who have agreeing personalities become close friends who share a deeper connection and rarely fight. Moreover, there would be no disputes caused by difference in judgement which may lead to a hostile situation. Such friends support each other constantly regardless of the outcome of a situation since they are on the same page.
However, some people steadfastly opine that friends who exude disagreeing perspectives are better off. It is important that people receive criticism and honest judgement from their friends. For example, when someone takes an unwise decision, it is vital to point out the fatality of it instead of blindly supporting. To put it another way, a friend should help identifying wrong from right when faced with difficulties. This way, people learn to respect each other while agreeing to disagree about certain viewpoints. A genuine friend always puts forward the highs and lows of their friends so that they can overcome their limitations.
To conclude, I believe that although choosing friends ultimately depends on an individual, it is better to choose someone who provides critical judgement when necessary.
