One of the most prominent trends of today's world is the upsurge in online shopping. This growth may have a negative impact on the local shops in the villages and cities. I strongly agree with this view because online shopping provides a wide range of options to consumers.
The biggest advantage of online shopping is the assurance of a comfortable and hassle-free shopping experience for consumers. Furthermore, there are discounts offered on a variety of products which are not often provided by shops in cities. Besides, customers can buy products with an option to return them for a full refund of their money. For instance, world renowned e-commerce website Amazon offers several products at discounted rates with a 7-day return period. It is to be noted that local malls do not accept returns or refunds. This has made customers more inclined towards using online sites for shopping.
Furthermore, online shopping enables an individual to buy products from across the world whilst comfortably sitting in their own home. These sites also provide door delivery which saves travel time and cost of fuel consumption. For example, Nykaa provides international beauty products at reasonable prices for people living in India with faster delivery and return options. Local shops have limited variety and mostly brand local items with no availability of international products. As a result, consumption from local shops has drastically decreased leading to shut down of many of them.
In conclusion, I think that the convenience of online shopping has led to migration of habits of people from shopping in local shops to buying products from e-commerce sites. Given this situation, it can be said that more shops functioning on a small scale would soon be shut down.
