Describe a goal you want to achieve in future
  • What the goal is?

  • What would you do to achieve it?

  • When will you achieve?

  • And explain why you want to achieve it?

I am an ardent follower of setting goals and achieving them no matter the hardships I may come across. So far, I wanted to excel in studies and get a job where I feel valued and I have been successful in achieving them. My subsequent goal is to become an entrepreneur who can provide employment opportunities for people and be in a place I am content with who I have become.

Just saying it might seem simple, but accomplishing it takes a lot of courage as I would need to leave my job and pursue a career risking a steady income. I tend to plan every little thing in my life and often worry that something may go wrong, overthinking every prospective situation so I can be prepared. I have prepared for over a year now training in management to enhance my entrepreneurial and financial strategizing skills besides saving up some money. Further, I am planning to pursue a post-graduation diploma in management to make sure I have enough knowledge to take on the task. I plan to start my business in 2 years in my hometown and gradually start franchises all over the country. However, there is no denying that life might take an unplanned turn. Nevertheless, I am ready to take on whatever hindrance comes my way head-on.

I have always dreamt of being in a position where I can work for a better future for not only myself but also for those around me. Being an entrepreneur would definitely give me that chance to give back and provide jobs to talented people. I am sure this would make a difference in many people’s lives and ultimately spread happiness.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. Should parents set targets for children?

After a certain age, parents I strongly think should keep away from setting targets for their children. It can have disastrous consequences on the life of youth as parents doing so try to fulfil their expectations and dreams through their children.

2. When do young children start setting goals for themselves?

Most of the time, in my opinion, children start making decisions on their career goals after middle school. This is in fact the ideal age where children should be encouraged by elders to take their own major decisions. Parents could act as mentors in this process.

3. What kinds of goals are not realistic?

The beauty of goals is it’s unrealistic only if you believe it is. But “being unrealistic” didn’t stop Bill Gates from having the goal of being a millionaire by 32 ,or how athletes like Usain Bolt set goals that exceed what others claim is impossible, only to end up achieving them.

4. Why do people set goals?

Goals provide people with focus and motivation. I feel that any individual is more likely to get things done when he sets goals for himself. It enables one to utilize ones potential to the fullest.

5. What would you feel if you couldn’t achieve your goals?

Well, I have learned the hard way not to be discouraged when due to some reason I might not achieve my goal. I set short term and long term goals for myself and try to overcome any obstacles that I may come across in doing so but sometimes things don’t turn out to be as expected and I make changes in my strategies, if I see that the usual approach is not going to work. There’s a lot to learn from failed strategies.
