I am a foodie and I love going out to try different kinds of cuisines almost every other week. So far, I have eaten at many restaurants that had a great ambience and provided delightful service. Here, I would like to talk about one restaurant’s service that stood out among the rest.

Two months ago, on the occasion of my birthday, my parents surprised me with a special party at my  favourite restaurant called ‘Mekong’ in my hometown. Mekong is renowned for the delicious food they serve as well as for the service they provide that is second to none. For my birthday, my parents booked the restaurant for the entire night to have a cozy dinner party with some of my close friends.

I was astonished with the way the restaurant’s management decorated it and additionally provided some extra seating to make us feel more comfortable. My dad decided the menu which included delectable continental food as it was my favourite cuisine and also a tiered cake for me. The cake looked and tasted spectacular. The staff was courtly and did an amazing job with food and drink arrangements.

I was thrilled to have the surprise while my friends were there. It was a fantastic evening with my family and friends. We enjoyed the food and the excellent service provided by the restaurant. They took care of all our needs for the evening and even gave us complimentary desserts. The service was absolutely gratifying and I would certainly go there again to arrange another party.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. What do you think of the relationship between companies and consumers?

I believe companies and customers have a co-dependent relationship. Consumers need companies to provide for their needs and companies need consumers for their sustainability. In other terms, only when people buy the products that a company offers, can it thrive and be relevant and only when there is a company producing constantly, can people’s needs be met.

2. As a customer, what kinds of services would you expect to receive from a company?

As a consumer, I would expect a company to be true to their claims. Many companies give assurances like 1 year warranty or guarantee but when it comes to fulfilling them, they back down and bring out new clauses. Furthermore, if we receive a defective product or if it is not up to the standards, the company should replace it.

3. What kind of jobs involve coping with the public?

Most of the marketing and sales jobs involve handling the public a lot. Also, service desk and helpdesk jobs also need to cope with customers by patiently listening and explaining them a solution to their problems. Although installation and help guides do have info to some extent, human support is always in demand so support personnel also need to handle customer requests.

4. Why should companies react quickly when customers have difficulties?

In my view, handling a customer complaint or issue in a timely manner is vital for a company to gain recognition and thrive in such a competitive world. If there is a delay and companies don’t handle problems quickly, their brand reputation might be affected and that would eventually disrupt sales and the potential success of the company.
