Describe a person who contributes to the society
  • Who this person is?

  • How you knew him/her?

  • What type of work he/she does?

  • And explain why you think he/she contributes to the society

As we live together in a society, each one of us has a social responsibility and being kind brings light into someone’s life who is need of it. However, nowadays, because of busy lifestyle that everyone got habituated to, people tend to ignore social service. Despite the bustling life that we live, some really value helping others and try to improve the society. I would like to talk about someone who always lends a helping hand to others.

Amit who is my school friend has always been known for his generous and kind nature.  We went to the same school and college where we started a free mentoring service for struggling students. Although I had to quit after a year because of my tight schedule, he was adamant about continuing it no matter how tired he was. He loved teaching our juniors who needed help as he once had difficulty learning some concepts by himself.

Not only mentoring, but he was also an active member of children’s welfare organisation in our hometown. He is still a part of that organisation and visits a number of places to spread awareness as well as help children get better education. In addition, he accords a part of his salary to an old age home every month invariably.

I have seen only a few people who believed in continuous contribution to their surroundings and actively play a part in improving the society. I am happy to say that my friend is one of them. His unwavering spirit has inspired many people including me and I am sure he will continue to do so.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. Do people nowadays help others more than in the past?

I don’t think there is a definite quantification and we should not compare the service that many people provided to others in society. There were people in the past who have helped many others by contributing what they have to the needy and that still continues to this day where many volunteer to serve the society very selflessly.

2. Who should teach children to help others? Parents or teachers?

I believe both parents and teachers play an important role in teaching children how to be kind and helpful. Every learning starts from home and parents should incorporate teaching kids that helping others is important in their daily lives. Teacher on the other hand, should come with group activities that help kids understand the virtue of helping people better.

3. In what kind of professions do people help others more?

I believe people in all professions help others in some way by offering their products and services. However, dedicated institutes like NGOs and people who pledge to do community service work to promote social welfare causes on a daily basis and help many children get a safe home, help women and adults who face social issues.

4. Why are some people willing to help others?

Some people are compassionate and empathetic towards others. Those qualities make them go out of their way to help others in need. There are also many philanthropists who believe in serving others and seek to promote the welfare of society by donating to good causes.
