Describe a piece of local news that people are interested in
  • What it was about?

  • Where you saw/heard it?

  • Who was involved?

  • And explain why people were interested in it

I read the newspaper regularly to stay updated with the happenings around me and the world. In addition, I read the local news leaflet to see if I can help with anything that is developing in my hometown. I would like to talk about one such local news item that a lot of people are intrigued about, including me.

Last week, I saw news about a petition that was started by local people for the construction of a recreation centre on the empty plot nearby. I later got to know that my neighbours were interested as well as trying to be a part of the petition. People have been imploring the local administration people to setup a recreation centre for the young and the old.

Our entire locality was already participating in raising awareness about the petition and that made news. I was happy to see the news and swiftly contacted my neighbours to check if I could join as well. I asked my family members also to take part in the campaign and sign the petition so we can get the centre constructed which will do collective good for everyone living in the area.

Discussions around the construction have been going on for a while now but nobody has ever really taken a step to make it happen. As the petition started, everyone took an interest in learning more about the news and participating so we could utilise the empty field that was slowly turning into a dumping yard. It is great that everyone living in the area showed interest in taking part and I am hopeful to see the centre get built soon.
