Describe a restaurant where you enjoyed going to
  • where the restaurant was?

  • who you went with?

  • what type of food you ate in this restaurant?

  • and explain why you thought the restaurant was good?

I am a foodie and I like exploring different restaurants whenever I go out. I have been to numerous restaurants including some food trucks that offered various international food including Chinese, Korean, Italian and several other dishes that I absolutely enjoyed eating. Although I eat outside frequently, I keep a check on the kind of food I eat and sometimes choose to have salads to keep myself healthy.

Recently, I dined at a restaurant called Marriott in my hometown, Mumbai, for lunch with my friends. We planned to go there several weeks ago as the restaurant serves scrumptious food and we finally were able to enjoy their food for the nth time, last week. It is a fancy restaurant with a calm ambience and courtly staff. My friends ordered Manchurian, a few chicken varieties and dumplings for themselves and I had a soupy ramen bowl with chicken and fried eggs.

It was one of the most flavourful international delicacies I have ever eaten in a while, as it contained a mixture of flavours. The restaurant also had live music and accepted requests from the customers. Besides, the cook has made changes to some of the dishes I ordered as per my liking and this is commendable as not many restaurants accept this from customers. Furthermore, they offered a complimentary dessert which was chef’s special for the day which tasted absolutely delicious. I had a lot of fun eating there and would definitely go back there for another delectable meal.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. Why do you think people go to restaurants when they want to celebrate something?

“No mess to clean up.” Even the host gets to enjoy the celebration. Everyone can order food they like to eat. You can order fancy drinks you don’t make.

2. Which are more popular in your country: fast food restaurants or traditional restaurants? Why do you think that is?

Fast food restaurants are getting increasingly popular nowadays as it’s cheap, no need to cook or clean, saves time. Most are franchises or chains which have standards to be consistent, and you know what you're getting and you can find it more or less the same no matter where in the country you are. Its tasty and engineered to taste pretty good to a large number of people consistently.

3. Some people say that food in an expensive restaurant is always better than food in a cheap restaurant – would you agree

Oh, no, not at all. I’ve had some not-so-great meals, entrees, and soups at high-end restaurants. I remember a very bland pureed soup I had one time that had no flavour at all but was very expensive, while I’ve had some memorably delicious foods (in the categories listed above) in inexpensive restaurants. You just need to try different places to know which chefs provide the foods you like best.

4. Do you think there will be a greater choice of food available in shops in the future, or will there be less choice?

Yes, I do think that there will be greater choices of food available in shops in the future as different food products manufacturing companies are coming up with different kinds of food in order to keep up with the increasing demands of their customers.

5. What effects has modern technology had on the way food is produced?

The production of the plants has increased. Due to this, a large part of the population of the world can be fed. Genetically modified crops or food can increase the yield and, in less time, many varieties of food can be obtained. The food is also rich of nutrients. Due to genetically modified crops, agriculturists use fewer pesticides and insecticides because there are in built genes in the plants which fight against various pests.

6. How important is it for a country to be able to grow all the food it needs, without importing any from other countries?

Now in 21st Century I totally consider it illogical and foolish also, to be able to produce all the food that a country needs. Nowadays, average consumer has access to food varieties that can come only if sourced through all five continents. Also, agro climatic factors and origin related constraints makes it impossible or really very difficult to produce every type of food at every place. It is therefore much more economically and environmentally sustainable to produce food which gets grown the best in suitable-identified places for specific food types and items
