Describe a rule that you don’t like
Rules and regulations are implemented in every school, workplace, and society in general to discipline people by establishing boundaries. Violation of rules results in punishment so as to make people avoid breaking any of them in the first place and also warn them of the repercussions. However, some rules might cause additional problems instead of keeping people in line. I would like to talk about one such rule that created issues when I was in school.
Like every other educational institute, my school also laid down some rules that are to be followed religiously by students. One rule that bothered me was the one that mandated the students to wear jackets even in the summer. I agree that students need to wear uniforms to represent school and oneness, but forcing us to wear uncomfortable clothing when the temperature was high upset me.
I complained about this to school management but as I was one of the very few people who were being vocal about it, there were no changes made to the mandate. We were not the only ones who felt discomfort, but the others were not ready to come forward and complain about it. Although I was being just honest about how I felt, some thought I was being callous.
Anyway, I had to oblige to the rule because no one would make changes just for some people. It was tough during elevated temperature days, but I got used to the heat eventually. I would say schools and colleges should consider everyone’s opinions and probably conduct an anonymous feedback process to find out more about the problems that students face.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers
1. Why do schools make rules?
Educational institutes like schools and colleges make rules to discipline students. Young people need to be taught the right way and right from wrong from a young age. So, certain rules in schools help make them understand social cues and become responsible adults. There are many rules and regulations enforced by the government and obeying them is everyone’s responsibility.
2. What’s the importance of obeying law?
In my view, a lawless society would be a chaotic place to live in. Laws are imposed so that people would live in harmony and maintain a societal responsibility. It is important to obey laws in order to prevent crime and make a country a safe place to live in for everyone. Also, following regulations will avoid mishaps and accidents from happening.
3. What can parents and teachers do to help children follow rules?
The effective way to help children recognize the importance of rules and obey them is by leading by example. Parents and teachers can act as the embodiments of the very rules they talk so kids can learn from them. Usually, kids mirror the actions of adults. So, if adults obey the rules and teach them the same, they will follow suit.
4. Do you think it is necessary for children to wear school uniforms?
I believe that students should wear uniforms to school as it teaches that everyone is equal and deserves the same respect. Not only that but it also gives an identity and induce a sense of discipline in students. It teaches students to see everyone equally and appreciate them. Uniforms also act as good identifiers; in case someone enters a school with no uniform, they can easily be identified and questioned.
