Describe a skill that was difficult for you to learn
  • When you learned it?

  • Why you learned it?

  • How you learned it?

  • How you felt when you learned it?

I have managed to learn some interpersonal skills such as cooking and public speaking but the skill I had a lot of trouble learning was driving.

I am naturally interested in learning something new in order to enhance my skills. However, one thing I was a bit scared of learning was how to drive a car. It took me a year to agree to learn to drive and just one month and a few commotions to properly learn it. Last year, I successfully completed my driving course and got a license.

Initially, I did not want to learn because there was never really a need for me to drive. But, after moving out of my hometown, I realised I had to drive on my own and depending on someone is not an option. In addition, the cab fares were too high which made me feel like I was wasting money even when I had my own vehicle. So, I contacted a fabled driving institute in my area and scheduled training sessions with them.

At first, I found it hard to understand some topics like gearing systems and how to reverse which were a bit convoluted. I started slowly and eventually was able to drive on the road at different speeds quickly but the trouble began when I had to park. In the process, I rammed the car twice into a divider and somehow damaged the engine with the way I handled the car. My trainer was nice enough to not expel me and helped me complete the training course.

Finally, after a month of practicing daily, I was able to learn every aspect of driving a car. It absolutely felt like an achievement for me. Now, I drive to work every day and often take my family out for long drives and vacations.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. What skills do students need to master?

In terms of academics, I believe pupils must grasp abilities such as science, math, and speaking. Non-academically, I think that practical and life skills such as money management, cooking, driving, and so on should be learned by every student. Furthermore, in today's world, everyone should try to learn and have some basic computer skills.

2. Is it hard for students to learn new skills?

I feel it is simpler for students to pick up new abilities as they are young and have that kind of enthusiasm. Their minds are more capable of absorbing and remembering information making them learn things faster. That is why young kids are encouraged to master a variety of skills such as sports, driving, and foreign languages.

3. Is it hard for old people to learn new skills?

I don't think it is very difficult for them. However, learning new things is not as simple for adults as it is for children or children. Some elderly people may not be able to recall things or memorise things for longer periods of time and they may need to repeat tasks in order to learn new skills.

4. Is a good teacher very important for students learning experience? Why?

Without a doubt. Teachers are accountable for not only educating, but also making sure that students are encouraged to learn every single day. Furthermore, today's children are rather impatient and readily lose focus making it a bit hard to mind them. Only if there is unwavering attention grabbed, will the teacher be able to deliver the subject clearly.
