  • When it was?

  • Why was it special?

  • Explain how you felt when you were waiting

In life, we wait for a lot of things. Some happen to be special and some, not so much. Here I would like to talk about an indelible event that happened in my life. My best friend Jim lives in Canada and it’s been more than two years since I last met him. However, he planned a special meet with me last month on the occasion of my birthday.

Initially, I planned to move to Canada but my plans went awry because of family issues. Jim and I have been friends since middle school and we were neighbours as well. So, we planned to go for higher education together but only he succeeded in doing so. So, him visiting me after such a long time was something I awaited the most.

We planned to meet on my birthday a month ago and that became extra special knowing that he would be celebrating my birthday with me. I was exuberant about all the plans we made which included going on a road trip and visiting our old school friends. I knew the day was going to be memorable as we were going to not only meet each other but also our old friends.

The wait was dreadful as I wanted the day to arrive quickly and I counted the down days before my birthday. However, knowing that I would be reunited with my buddy made me feel over the moon. I reminisced about our school days together which we are very fond of. I knew it was going to be a momentous day in my life and I was very excited.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. On what occasions do people usually need to wait?

Waiting is a part of our daily lives. From waiting for a bus to get to college or workplace to waiting for food at a restaurant, waiting for something is very common. I wait for a bus every day to get to my office in the morning and then wait some more for the traffic to be cleared on the way to get office on time. Likewise, people wait for things like public transport, wait in queues for payments etc.

2. Who behaves better when waiting for children or adults?

With age, patience levels increase so I think adults have better tolerance than children when waiting. Adults are more mature and they know why something is important and know they have to wait for something. Some kids behave well when waiting but most of them have little patience and throw a fit because they get bored.

3. Compared to the past are people less patient now, why?

Yes, people these days are less patient because they got used to getting everything done in a short time facilitated by new age technology. It has made everything available just a touch away. Now, food can be delivered within half an hour; clothes get delivered in just a few days and that has led to people being impatient when they have to wait for things.

4. What are the positive and negative effects of waiting on society?

When looked at from a positive angle, waiting helps increase patience and tolerance levels in people, making them more endurant towards others and society. On a negative note, it can result in some terrible situations. For instance, people often faint when waiting in long queues and it can become fatal while waiting for an ambulance.
