When I was in school, I was always enraptured by art and poetry and tried to make one that stood out in my art classes. I was imaginative and loved putting my thoughts on paper. It eventually became a hobby and here, I would like to talk about a competition that I participated in which made me be imaginative.
In the summer of 2008, I participated in the ‘Fantasy writing’ competition, where I had to write an imaginary fantastical story about a stable boy who became a hero for everyone by saving the king in medieval times. I was absolutely enthralled to take part in that competition as I was already in awe of art and drawn towards it more because of the encouragement I received from my art teacher.
There were many kids who took part in the competition. It was quite tough and I knew I had to come up with the best story. It was hard to write a unique story within 2 hours by imagining interesting characters and a creative story. However, I had a lot of fun writing and later reading stories that the other kids wrote.
I was astonished with the story I wrote result, as I did not expect to have a finished story in two hours’ time. It was absolutely fantastic that I had a great imagination and I was very proud of myself at that moment. I did get commended by my teacher and the whole class lauded after reading my story.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers
1. Do you think adults can have lots of imagination?
Yes, people can have a higher level of imagination irrespective of their age. However, kids on average have a greater imagination than adults as they are more curious about things around them and tend to learn more. Adults on the other hand, also have imagination, especially writers, in my opinion, as they come up with fantastical stories.
2. Do you think imagination is necessary for scientists?
Absolutely, imagination is vital for scientists because some start their research based on certain theories that they come up with which are also dependent on existing facts. Through such imagination only, scientists were able to plan missions to Mars and the moon decades ago which were successful and paved the path to new discoveries.
3. What kind of jobs need imagination?
I believe almost every job needs imagination. For instance, writers need imagination to create characters and narrate a story around them. Painters imagine what a picture would look like if painted. Furthermore, people who work in the entertainment industry need imagination to create movies and shows.
4. What subjects are helpful for people’s imagination?
Imagination comes naturally to children; but if that is made into a habit by encouraging them to read a book, paint something or write a poem, it will be improved manyfold. Besides, planning some adventurous trips for kids to a nearby historical place or a camp for a few days would help them gain more knowledge and help develop imagination.
