Describe a time when you travelled by public transportation
  • when did you travel?

  • where did you travel to?

  • what was the purpose of your travel?

  • how did you feel about it?

I own a car and prefer travelling by it because it is time saving and convenient. However, when I need to travel for long hours, I lean towards public transportation. Owing to that very reason, I chose to travel by train with my family recently.

We went to Delhi on a vacation last month as our office holidays synced up. We did think about other places we could visit but decided Delhi would be the best option at this time of the year. Furthermore, my sister wanted to visit the Taj Mahal since a long time and she was insistent on going there. Thus, to oblige her wishes, we decided to go see India’s most beautiful monument. Besides, it is a renowned tourist attraction where people come from across the world. So, we booked tickets on the official railway website a week prior to our journey. On the day of our travel, we reached the railway station thirty minutes before the departure time of our train just to ensure we didn’t miss the train.

The journey was refreshing as we played some games and saw some stunning sights along the way. My sisters and I fought for a window side seat but eventually decided to take turns each hour. It was wintertime, so watching sunset through the foggy winds while sitting on an express train was spectacular. Furthermore, we travelled locally in and around Delhi after we visited the Taj Mahal and it was a fantastic journey. I thoroughly enjoyed the train journey as well as the rest of the trip. I look forward to travelling again soon.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. How easy is it to travel around your country?

It is quite easy to travel in India since personal as well as public transportation is available at all times throughout the year. However, traffic congestion in big cities is a problem which is uncomfortable for many people. Thus, I think it is easy to travel using public transportation like buses and trains.

2. Which method of travel do you consider safest? Why?

I prefer travelling by flights to other modes of transportation because in my view, it is the safest. Accidents during air travel are very rare as flights have constant supervision and collisions with other flights are close to none. Moreover, it is also the fastest and most convenient way of transportation.

3. Has travel become safer in recent years?

Given technological advancements, travelling now is much safer and convenient than it was in the past. Safety controls like airbags, antilock brakes and adaptive headlights are incorporated into cars. This protects people from being injured in case a road accident occurs. Moreover, roads have also been considerably developed to prevent accidents.

4. How do you think people will travel in the future?

Well, we already have electric vehicles available and many people have started buying them to reduce fuel consumption. I think this will develop rapidly and most of the people will use more environmentally friendly vehicles as mentioned. Furthermore, we might even see flying cars in the future as predicted years ago.
