Describe a time when you visited a farm
  • when was it?

  • where was it?

  • what did you do/ what was there at the farm?

  • how you felt being there?

It has been quite some time since I have been to a farm. The last time I visited a farm was when I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree, my university took my class on a trip to a lavender farm. It was about 80 kilometers from the university’s location and we decided taking a bus would be the best way to reach the place. We reached the farm by noon and I was stunned by the beauty of it.

The farm’s owner greeted us as we entered and led us to give a tour of the place. The workers who were working on the farm showed how planting is done and let us do some of the work. That was the day I fell head over heels for lavenders and momentarily considered moving there.

After we sowed some plants in the field, we were allowed to wash up in a huge trough where we had fun splashing the water at each other. Shortly after, that we had a scrumptious meal sitting by a pond on the farm. Later, the owner announced that we could collect some lavenders to take back home with us and provided instructions on how to care for them. I jumped at this announcement like a little kid as I was in awe of the place and felt happy I could take a souvenir from there.

The whole experience was astonishing for me. I reminisce about that day I spent with some of my best friends at the beguiling farm. The lavenders dried soon after the trip but I made a resin art piece to preserve them. I still remember the view of the farm and the smell of the fresh air like it was yesterday.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

Of course, it will change as sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors, aerial images, and GPS technology playing vital role these days. These advanced devices and precision agriculture and robotic systems will allow farms to be more profitable, efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly.

2. Is farming important for your country?

Yes of course as in my country 70 percent of people depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood. My country is basically an agricultural country. However, with the fast pace of urbanization there aren’t enough people who are willing to follow it as their occupation.

3. What measures should we take to protect our nature?

To protect the environment and preserve the planet for our children and future generations, we all need to take proactive steps toward cleaner living habits. Recycling rubbish and participating in or help organize recycling campaigns. Avoid littering and participating in or help organizing litter clean-ups. Using less plastic by, for example, carrying a reusable water bottle, saying no to disposable straws and cutlery, avoiding plastic toys, and carrying our own shopping bag are some of the little things we can do to protect our nature.
