Describe a time you got lost in a place you didn’t know about
  • When did it happen?

  • Who was with you?

  • What did you do?

  • Explain how you felt about it

I routinely visit shopping malls, restaurants, and theatres where there are large crowds of people. I like spending time in such places with my family or friends as they give a sense of happening. There were times when I got lost in such places and here, I would like to talk about one such incident.

Last month, I visited a street market in Delhi when I was touring the city for a few days. My best friend, Jane, who lives there, invited me over for her birthday party and took me out to see various attractions of the city later in the week I stayed there. We went to a market called Connaught place which is prominent across the country for its cheap and durable products.

I went into a book stall to buy some books when Jane went into a different shop. After buying some books, I came out of the stall and tried to find her but I lost my way. I looked around and thought of calling her when I realised she had my phone with her. The place was heavily crowded and I got bewildered by the crowd.

Fortunately, a stranger offered to help me by lending me his phone so I could call her. I called her quickly and told her where I was standing and she understood my location. I was utterly frightened when I got lost in the crowd and couldn’t find her or my phone. I felt thankful for the polite stranger who helped me contact her.

Yes, people look up for some information about the place they are going to visit to see what things they need to carry with them. Depending on the weather, they take clothes that are apt; if the place is a remote place where things are not always available, people pack some essentials and medicine for emergencies.

2. Is map-reading skill important?

Yes, I think it is absolutely vital to know how to read a map because when we visit a new location, maps guide us very well. Nowadays, there are online applications like Google maps that make things a bit easier as they show the exact location we are in and guide us to the place we need to reach precisely.

3. Are some people good at map-reading than others?

Everyone has different skills and abilities. Some are very thorough at reading a map while others have some difficulty. It also depends on time and practice. Someone who has been map-reading for a long time definitely has ease while others who are new would have some difficulty.

4. Why some people like travelling to other places?

Some people love traveling to other places because they like exploring new places and their culture. It is monotonous living in the same place for years and not really trying to know about the world around us. So, some people opt to go out and experience new things in their lives by travelling.
