Describe a time you got up early
  • When was it?

  • How did you feel about it?

I am a night owl and usually wake up pretty late. I stay up till the wee hours at night so it’s naturally difficult for me to wake up early. However, I do wake up early when I need to study or travel somewhere. The time for studying has passed as I am no longer a student so the only purpose I wake up early is to go on trips. I would like to talk about the time when I woke up at 4 am in the morning to go on a road trip.

Last year, my friends and I planned to go on a two-day road trip on a long weekend during winter. We planned where to visit and booked motorbikes to drive there all two days. We heard about a picturesque sunrise viewpoint about an hour away, on the way to our destination. So, we planned to start our journey early in the morning so we can watch the sunrise.

I wanted to sleep early but I had only 4 hours of sleep that night because of my messed-up sleep schedule. I got very used to sleeping late so my biological clock was not ready to be reset abruptly when I wanted it to. Anyway, I did wake up at 4, quickly got ready and started off on my bike to our first destination.

It initially felt a bit tiring, to drive with only 4 hours of sleep but the sunrise was all worth it. It was a stupendous view and we all had a relaxing time. I realised why there are so many people who wake up early. I felt energised the entire day and I was in a really good mood despite having less sleep. Ever since then, I do wake up early sometimes to watch sunrise but still stick to my old schedule the rest of the days.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. Do you know anyone who likes to get up early?

Yes, many of my friends love waking up early and they do it every single day even on weekends. They wake up at 6 am and go for a jog in the park. Also, my parents have been morning persons for years now. They wake up at 5 am every day, fresh up and pray to God for an hour and then go on to do their daily chores.

2. Why do people get up early?

I think one of the reasons people wake up early is to get some exercise. Morning exercises are known to be very effective and energise people. Besides, people wake up early to get chores done before getting along to go to college or work. It gives ample amount of time to do things within time and not be late.

3. What kind of situations need people to arrive early?

I think people should always be early to formal events like office meetings, award ceremonies, doctor appointments etc. It is wise to be early than to be late and wait for our turn that we missed because of tardiness. As for some meet ups with family and friends, I believe it does not really matter when one arrives.

4. Why do some people like to stay up late?

I believe people who don’t get a lot of time to themselves during the day tend to stay up late and have some me time. I am one of those people and I like staying up late watching my favourite shows enjoying the quietness of the night. It is that time when no one disturbs me and I quite enjoy it.
