To be honest, I spend a lot of time on social media. I post religiously and follow my friends and favourite celebrities to see how they are doing. I think social media has become a part of our lives. Here, I would like to talk about an interesting post I saw on Instagram.

There are various pages I follow on Instagram but the page called ‘DIY crafts’ has caught my attention recently. They post some intriguing videos of do-it-yourself art and craft that can be done utilising the regular things we can find at home. I have tried some of the crafts that I saw on their page which turned out to be beautiful.

Last week, I saw a post from them where they explained how to make flowerpots from old drink or water bottles. I always throw out the one-time use bottles I buy as they are just garbage piling up in my house. However, watching the video made me realise that they could be reused. It was a fascinating take on the plastic bottles we use at home. 

Later, I tried making flowerpots, plant holders with the used-up bottles at home. I was elated to see the result as it turned out to be delightful. It was interesting that what I treated as garbage could end up being so beautiful as well as eco-friendly. I was interested in more such ideas and regularly tried the craft ideas shared by the page ever since.

One of the main reasons why people use social media is to keep in touch with friends and family members that stay far away from them. They can message, post photos on social media to let their friends know what they are up to. Also, people use it for entertainment purposes, to watch funny content, movies, or TV shows.

A number of things are popular on social media, such as memes, pictures, funny videos etc. People like to share photos and videos of themselves. They also like to share popular trends and latest news about their favourite celebrities. Nowadays, many small businesses that sell handmade clothes or accessories are gaining popularity.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social media?

The biggest advantage of using social media is that it is very easy to communicate and access information. It is a way to keep in touch with friends and family and also social media provides a platform to share our thoughts. On the other hand, there could be false information that is misleading to many people. It is important to fact-check the information received on some sites of social media.

4. What do you think about making friends on social networking sites?

I think it is okay to make online friends but we should always be careful about who we are talking to. We need to have some way of confirming we are not being played as there are many cases of catfishing and scamming that people face because of making friends online and trusting them blindly.
