Describe an occasion when you were not allowed to use your mobile phone
  • When it was?

  • Where it was?

  • Why were you not allowed to use your mobile phone?

  • Explain how you felt about it

I usually use my mobile phone a lot as I am very active on social media and post almost on a daily basis. It is a way of keeping in touch with my friends and also a source of amusement for me. However, there were times when I was not allowed to use my phone at all. Here I would like to talk about one such situation where I couldn’t use my phone for two whole days.

A year ago, when I was in college, I was expelled from class because I was using my mobile phone. The college informed my parents about it and they were furious with me. As a punishment I had to stay away from my phone during the following weekend. They made it clear that I was a bit too indulged in social media and that I had to learn to do without my phone.

I have been getting complaints from my family previously about my phone usage but getting suspended fuelled it. They confiscated my mobile and did not let me use it for the whole weekend when I was home. They made me realise what I did was not right and later I did think about the whole situation and it did not sit right with me as well.

At first, I sulked saying that it was not my mistake but by the end of my punishment, I realised that I should not have used my phone during a lecture as I had time to think over what I did. I feel relieved that my parents taught me a lesson by taking away my phone and encouraging me to reflect on my mistake.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. What is the impact of the cell phone?

I believe mobile phones have both positive and negative impacts on our lives. Cell phones have made communication easier and have facilitated multiple options to buy or sell things just a touch away. However, they also have negative impacts as they can become addictive and cause stress in our lives.

2. What is the smartphone used the most for?

Nowadays smartphones are primarily used for communication and browsing social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, etc. It is also used for playing mobile games, watching movies and TV shows. I personally use it for calling, messaging and also spend time on it playing games with my friends.

3. What is your opinion about selfies?

I think taking selfies is the biggest trend of our era. It has made taking pictures easier by self when there is no one around to click a picture for us. Many people like me are camera shy and often don’t like it when others click their pictures but with the advent of selfies, it has made people comfortable looking at cameras.
