Describe someone you really like to spend time with
  • Who this person is?

  • How you knew him/her?

  • What you usually do together?

  • And explain why you like to spend time with him/her

I usually do not go out a lot and have only a few friends. I love spending time with my family and my close friends, but I would like to talk about one person who is always fun to hang out with. I often go out with my best friend Alisha, who lives right next door.

Actually, we have been neighbours ever since we were kids. Besides, we went to the same school and college. I have spent my entire childhood gleefully with her by my side, and I can say she is no less than a sibling to me. In our younger years, we used to go out to play and even went to guitar classes together for a few months before I got bored and quit. Now, we mostly meet up during the weekends because our jobs keep us busy the rest of the week.

We go to some of our favourite restaurants to have dinner or lunch. Sometimes, we take short trips to relax which are fun and we usually talk about our jobs and life in general. We also visit our old hang out places where we used to play arcade games and basketball. We talk for hours and often reminisce about our college days and the shenanigans we pulled on our teachers.

Some of the best days that I had were with her. We go on spontaneous trips to intrepid locations and experience new things. She is one of the very few people with whom I can be free and speak my mind, which makes me feel happy to spend time with her. I am glad we still share the same bond and hope this continues to be so.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. How many generations usually live together in India?

The living situation in India differs from household to household. In the old days, people used to live together for three to four generations as a joint family under the same roof. Now, it has come down to just one family with parents and kids living together. However, there are still many joint families where three generations live in the same house.

2. Is it important to visit family members?

Yes, it is vital to keep in touch with family regularly. Family members are the only ones who support and stand by us through thick and thin. Meeting them frequently helps a person to relax and feel safe. We forget our hard times and the bond becomes stronger when we spend time with family so we should try to meet them regularly.

3. What are the values of family in your country?

In India, our cultural values lie in respecting elders and caring for them. We also value families and living together even after becoming adults. Furthermore, we value celebrating festivals and important occasions together by meeting extended family members to spend time and share happiness.

4. Do you think the support from a friend is different from the support from a family member?

Sometimes, yes. When it comes to family members, they have unconditional love for us and think what’s best for us. On the other hand, friends can sometimes miss that selflessness and may not always try to understand things from our perspective. Furthermore, sometimes we feel that we owe them but that feeling is not there when family supports us.
