Describe your favourite movie
  • When and where you saw it?

  • What type of film it was?

  • What the film was about?

  • And explain why it is your favourite film?

I am a movie buff and I enjoy watching movies in my leisure time. I have watched many years but if I had to pick a favourite, it would be ‘Back to the Future’. The title caught my attention when I first heard about it two years ago and piqued my interest. It was a holiday the next day, so I watched it at home on my laptop.

The movie is a science fiction that came out in the year 1985. Although, it was decades ago, the production was remarkable. I find it very fascinating as it has the concept of time travelling. The reactions of the protagonist when he first discovers that he has travelled thirty years into the past in a time machine his professor invented. He fumbles around trying to understand what happened and eventually meets his parents when they were teens. Unfortunately, he causes an accident where his parents were actually supposed to meet but do not and later, tries to get them together. The rest of the movie continues by him trying different ways to set his parents up together and managing to get in touch with the professor in the past to send him back to the future again.

I absolutely loved watching it. I love science fiction and I have to say, it certainly set an example for many of the movies that came later on. It is astonishing that even after decades after its release it’s still considered to be the most iconic movie. The movie has two sequels which are also amazing, but the first one will always be my favourite.

Part 3 Follow Up - Questions & Answers

1. Do you think films have any educational benefits?

Films, in my opinion, are great for visual learners as they allow students to see life through different perspectives and provide a visual aid to understanding historical events.

2. In what ways are documentary films and films only for entertainment different?

The difference between documentary and feature film lies in their purpose and subject matter. Documentary aims to educate , inform and inspire the viewers whereas feature films aim to entertain the audience.

3. Why do you think documentary films are not so popular?

I think people at large mostly tend to like things that are bigger than life, so they go for features. Documentaries are mostly about the realities of life, and that is not most people’s favorite.

4. How are movies and real life different?

Virtually nothing you see in the movies is what it is like in really real life. This includes dramas that are just about personal interactions. At best you can get bits and pieces or small slices of real life. Almost all people in movies use amounts of money far in excess of what they should have. Dialog is always flawless with no one talking over someone else unless it makes a dramatic point in movies. That is not the way it works in real life. Movies are simple. Life is complex

5. Do men and women like to watch the same kinds of films?

I would say yes. But I would also say there are certain types of movies that appeal more to one sex than the other .For instance I remember when James Bond and Titanic were playing in my local cinema. I decided to go for the former first, though I did go to see Titanic later. Titanic is really a romantic movie. Overall, I would say women prefer romance over thrillers .But I also believe women make up a big portion of horror movie watchers. I think they like to be scared. Maybe go to a horror movie with their friends and give out a few shrieks .I think everybody likes comedies .I would say science fiction is more of a guys thing.

6. Do different age groups like the same kinds of films?

Different age groups have different choices because something about it appeals or does not appeal to them. It depends on their personality. A personality defines whoever you are. It makes up how you think of certain situations and your choices. Just like that, a specific genre of movie appeals to your personality and some won’t. Some like documentaries some don’t. Some laugh at satires. Some think it’s offensive because they are wired that way in their head to behave so. Not everybody will like the same movie.

7. Do you like any particular film star? Why?

I like Bollywood actor Amir Khan the most because he’s an actor par excellence. He lives his role in every movie he does .He is not only a good actor in reel life but also a great person in real life as he is well known as a philanthropist.
